Tinku Ray
Tinku Ray is an award winning journalist with more than 30 years experience across three continents with the BBC and NPR. As a reporter, she covered events such as the 1992 LA riots, the start of the Afghan war after 9/11, stories on Dalits in India and the oppression they endure across the country, India’s worst earthquake in Gujarat that killed over 20,000 people, and the end of the Sri Lankan civil war. She also produced several long-form stories and narrated an award winning documentary for Discovery Channel on the Golden Temple – the most sacred site for the Sikh faith.
Despite having lived in England and the United States, Tinku still considers herself an Indian first. She is always interested in finding out more about the Indian communities living outside India. India has the largest diaspora in the world. We Indians are spread out in every corner, so our lives and how we integrate into the countries we’ve migrated to are interesting and significant.
Tinku was instantly drawn to Sasikala and Anish’s story because of how tragic it is. “The loss of any human is sad,” she says, “but when a child is murdered in such a horrific way, it’s even more heinous. So it’s important that the person who did this be brought to justice and punished for the crime.”
